Rick Tobey is an accomplished singer-songwriter, guitarist and “Blues Man” whose major influences include Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Willie Dixon, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Tom Waites and John Hammond.
He was a featured perfomer at several 2003 & 2004 & 2006 NC BLUES Festivals including the Cape Fear Blues Festival, the Pleasure Island Seafood, Blues, & Jazz Festival, Celebrate the Arts, Front Street @ 3, and Riverfest. He plays as a solo act or with the CHICKENHEAD BLUES BAND and may have been seen playing “da chickenhead blues” at Wilmington area clubs such as The Ice House, The Whiskey, Water Street, The Rusty Nail, Port City Java, etc.
He recorded a live blues CD at the Rusty Nail Saloon on Valentine's Day, 2003 entitiled "LUV'N THE BLUES" which is available at gigs and at CD Alley on Market St. He recently releasaed a CD on the LOUISIANA RED HOT RECORDS label entitled CHICKENHEAD BLUES.
His performance is reminiscent of an old blues master, with growled, passionate baritone vocals, thumpin’ rhythm, and raw, stinging slide guitar.
He also writes and records Electronic Rock, Trance, & Techno music, under the name CYBERSCAPE.
